Return of the Rouge

Maybe I'm inspired by the colors of the changing leaves, or maybe it's just the Mad Men mania that's sweeping the nation, but I'm about to recommend red blush -- a modern equivalent of that classic beauty staple, rouge.Shiseido Accentuating Color Stick in S4 Rouge Flush is an easy-to-work-with stick in a somewhat intimidating hue. I mean, it's red. In these days of peachy-pink Orgasm and

Pretty in Pink: 12 Gorgeous Glosses

There's nothing like a great pink lippie to add a fresh pop of color to your summer look! I have a major soft spot for pink glosses; in fact, as I was going through my collection to write this post, it was difficult to narrow it down to 12. Check out my favorite pink lip glosses below, ranging from cotton candy to deep raspberry, in shimmer, cream, and plumping versions. What are your favorite

The Orange Lip: 5 Ways to Wear It

I love tackling the hard-to-wear lip looks here on Beauty Addict; last fall's post on How to Rock a Coral Lip was so much fun to write and even pushed me to be a little more adventurous with my own lip colors. Now that Spring has arrived, let's recall one of the biggest trends on the Spring runways: ORANGE lips. The look above is from Nanette Lepore; makeup artist Polly Osmond used MAC Morange

Everybody in the Pool: The Return of the Aqua Eye

Teal eyeshadow has been popping up on celebrity lids lately, so I'm wondering if the International Makeup Artist High Council is trying to tell us something. Is teal (or aqua, if you prefer) shadow ready to make a comeback?Kate Bosworth rocked a flat teal lid at the Costume Institute Gala, and Gwyneth Paltrow sports a dewy aqua eye on the cover of V magazine. The look is definitely out there, but

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Narciso Rodriguez

Before we start talking beauty, can I just say that Jerry Seinfeld is actually really hot in person? Saw him at the show and was shocked. Off to watch some Seinfeld reruns as soon as I post this. Now, down to business. The look at Narciso Rodriguez, created by Shiseido's Dick Page, was "natural and ephemeral," with lots of pale pinks and pearly finishes. Page used two shades of pink on eyes -

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang was back this season with more clothes for the "M.O.D." (Model Off Duty) and the hair and the makeup were a perfect match. I asked Dick Page how the Alexander Wang girl had evolved since last season. "She's wearing more clothes," he said, "and she's really pissed off!"Indeed, the look was very downtown, slightly grungy, and definitely angry. Dick described the makeup inspiration

Runway Beauty: Backstage at United Bamboo with Dick Page and Shiseido

I was so excited to kick off my Fashion Week coverage at United Bamboo, because Shiseido's Dick Page was the lead makeup artist at the show. This guy is a trip. Not only is he incredibly talented, he has a great sense of humor (and he always has 5 minutes to talk to a blogger about the look).United Bamboo's designers showed Dick a photo from Self Service magazine featuring an eye look that they

Fresh Picked: 10 Fabulous Berry Shades For Fall

We've been talking about the berry lip for ages on this blog; every time fall rolls around it's the seasonal look that I look forward to the most.A juicy berry lip is rich and elegant and more wearable than a straight, classic red. And there are tons and tons of colors to choose from! From raspberry to cranberry to "wine berry," here are a few of my favorite berry hues. Post yours in the comments

Tangerine Dreams

Now that all the shows are behind us, there's actually time to sit back and dissect the trends! One that popped up quite a bit on the New York Spring 2008 runways was, believe it or not, orange. Nanette Lepore (left), Carolina Herrera (center), and Temperley (right) all showed vibrant tangerine lips, and I was shocked to find myself liking the look! Here's the rundown for each:Nanette Lepore:

Shiseido The Makeup: Spring 2008 Preview

This past Fashion Week I was able to score a sneak peek at some new Shiseido goodies due out next March! Every collection from Shiseido seems to be better than the last, so I was just tickled to see some of my favorite things in this one, most notably, Hydro Powder Eye Shadow in four new colors. The rundown:Shiseido The Makeup Hydro Powder Eye Shadow. At this point I can't even count how many

Runway Beauty: Backstage with Shiseido and Dick Page at United Bamboo

The Spring '08 United Bamboo show was held at one of my favorite venues, the Prince George Ballroom, with one of my favorite makeup artists, Dick Page, at the helm! The backstage area was tight, but Dick is so cool that the atmosphere stayed laid-back and fun. He created a fab '60s look inspired by Michelle Phillips. With an inspiration like Michelle, how could you not love it? I just wish I had a

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Doo.Ri

Doo.Ri is one of my favorite shows every season and this time was no exception! The color palette of ivory, navy, aubergine and boysenberry was just gorgeous, and the hair and makeup were the perfect complement.Shiseido's Dick Page created a "subdued, discreet" look that started with a very soft, layered eye. He used Shiseido Hydro Powder Eye Shadow (a Beauty Addict favorite) in Bare Pink,

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang was my first show of the week, and what a show! Wang's bread-and-butter is the "Model Off Duty," and the clothes were relaxed and very downtown, a bit of a throwback to 90s-era grunge.Drawing upon Wang's 90s inspiration, Bumble & bumble key hairstylist Laurent created a loose, wavy look he described as "the science of faking nature" (love that!). He used Bb Surf Spray to mattify

The Shadow That Launched a Thousand Ships

OK, so maybe the comparison to Helen of Troy is a bit much, but I've never seen an eye shadow cause a craze like Shiseido The Makeup Hydro-Powder. Longtime readers might recall the original mention of this illustrious shadow on this site; it was way back in December '05 when several of us gathered in a midtown Sephora and snatched up the entire stock of Hydro Powder in Whitelights.A few months

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Doo.Ri

Tuesday was a crazy day; can you tell? I started at Derek Lam in the morning, all the way over in Way West Chelsea (land of old warehouses and lots of wind), then hung out at the Empire Diner with a bunch of photographers for about an hour before heading to Behnaz, another 6 blocks away in Way West Chelsea. Then it was back to the Tents in Bryant Park to see Tom and Orlando again at Doo.Ri. And

Runway Beauty: Backstage at Derek Lam

I was so excited to get the chance to see Tom Pecheux at work again this season. Tom always creates such gorgeous looks, and the skin - oh, the skin! Nobody does skin like Tom.For Derek Lam, Tom used Shiseido products to create a look that was "very urban," but still feminine. He used matte cream foundation - Shiseido Dual Balancing Foundation - and as usual, the skin was flawless.Lower lids were

Berry Picking

Lest we get too caught up in Spring '07 trends around here, let's get back to basics and talk a little bit about what to wear NOW. Fall is here and it is finally time to break out that swoonworthy berry lip.My pick? Shiseido The Makeup Shimmering Lipstick in SL8 Rouge Irise. New from Shiseido for Fall, it's a cool, deep berry with blue based shimmer (note: the shimmer is far stronger in the tube

Backstage With Tom Pecheux at Doo.Ri

What a way to end the week! Yesterday was the last day of Fashion Week and I had the chance to go backstage at Doo.Ri and watch Shiseido color creator and celebrity makeup artist Tom Pecheux work his magic on the models (and no, that's not Tom at left; it's a makeup artist on his team. Photos of Tom at work to come!).The look Tom created was inspired by Doo.Ri's collection; "austere and serious

Snow Falling on Eyelids

The recent manic Sephora spree that resulted in the purchase of the Becca Shimmer Powder (see Gypsy Rose) also spawned frantic impulse buys of a certain Shiseido eyeshadow. Several of us had been admiring it for hours upon the lids of Chattykathy, and by the end of the day the urge to purchase was so strong that when we spotted the black and white stripes of Sephora, we all dashed inside.
