Taiwan market: NCC issues WiMAX operating license to Global Mobile

Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) has issued an operating license to Global Mobile, enabling the company to start offering WiMAX services.

Global WiMAX said that its WiMAX networks in Hsinchu City, northern Taiwan will cover up to 95% of the city's population by year-end 2009 and will officially kick off commercial services in the city starting in first-quarter 2010.

Among other WiMAX licensees, Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) and Vmax Telecom are expected to obtain operating licenses before the end of this year, while Vee Telecom Multimedia is likely to receive one in first-quarter 2010, according to NCC officials.
