HTC was the largest Taiwan-based handset manufacturers in the second quarter of 2010 with 5.45 million units in shipments, according to Digitimes Research. The company was able to widen its lead thanks to strong sales of its own brand smartphones. The top three positions remained unchanged in the period with Arima Communications in second place and Chi Mei Communications in third.
Inventec Appliance gained one spot to take fourth largely due to strong shipments for Inventec branded CDMA phones for the Chinese market. Compal Communications was replaced by Foxlink in the top five with shipments of 770,000 units. It was hurt by orders for Motorola's feature phones coming to an end and limited shipments for Palm.
