Telecom providers in Asia gear up for LTE services

A number of telecom service providers in Asia are gearing up to establish LTE networks, with plans to launch LTE-enabled services in 2010-2012, according to market sources.

Taiwan-based network equipment makers providing CPE products such as netbooks, network cards and femtocell base stations are likely to benefit from the emerging LTE industry, the sources contended.

In Japan, NTT DoCoMo and Emobile are both ready to install LTE networks, noted the sources, adding that NTT DoCoMo will purchase part of its LTE backhaul network equipment from Alcatel-Lucent.

NTT DoCoMo is expected to officially launch LTE services in 2010 at the earliest, while Emobile is likely to launch commercial LTE services in 2012, the sources said.

CSL, one of the three licensees for providing wireless broadband services in Hong Kong, also plans to launch LTE services, utilizing its current HSPA+ commercial networks, according to company CEO Tarek Robbiati.

China Mobile HK and Genius Brand also have licenses to operate LTE networks in Hong Kong.
