Both Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics saw their shares in the Taiwan market strengthen further in March 2009 although total handsets sold dropped 17% sequentially to about 540,000 units, according to the latest data compiled by retail channels in Taiwan.
Although Samsung still remained the third-rank vendor, the company managed to expand its market share to 18.3% in March compared 17.6% in February. Meanwhile, the fourth-rank vendor LGE saw it share top the 10%-mark for the first time, reaching 10.7% in March compared to 9.3% in the previous month, the data showed.
Nokia retained its top spot position with a 31.2% share, whereas the number two vendor Sony Ericsson saw its share drop to 19% in March from 22.2% in February, the data revealed.
HTC (High Tech Computer) saw its sales decline substantially in March, dragging the company's ranking to eleventh position with a 0.9% share.
