Dell Rolls out New Intel-Based Laptops, Talks About Mini 3 in U.S.

At CES, Dell officials talked up mobility with a host of new and enhanced Alienware, Inspiron and Studio laptops, many armed with Intels new Core processors. Dell officials also talked about their upcoming Mini 3 smartphone for the United States and 5-inch tablet, both running on Googles Android OS and both expected to launch later this year.

Dell is giving business users and consumers a look at new and future products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The systems maker on Jan. 7 unveiled a host of new and enhanced mobile devices, including mainstream and gaming laptops, as well as a peek as its upcoming Mini 3 Android-based smartphone for the United States market and a 5-inch tablet PC, both of which are due for release later this year.

Dell also announced that AT&T will be the next mobile operator to offer the Mini 3.

Other products highlighted include new Alienware gaming systems, new Inspiron laptops and desktops, and upgraded Studio systems. Many of the new and enhanced systems come with Intels latest Core processors, which the chip maker also announced Jan. 7 at CES.

Dell officials said the key theme for the company at CES is mobility, in laptops and other devices.

We are focused on technology and solutions that help people connect and share content virtually anytime and anyplace, Michael Tatelman, vice president of sales and marketing for Dells global consumer business, said in a statement. Consumers are demanding enhanced mobility in high-quality devices, and want to know they have made smart choices with their purchases.

The announcements come on the heels of Dells news Jan. 6 that it is partnering with AT&T to bring the Android-based Mini 3 to the United States.

Dell officials announced the smartphone in November 2009, and released it first in Brazil and China. Now the device is coming to the United States, though the vendor on Jan. 6 released few details about the new phone.

The tablet prototype also runs Googles Android mobile operating system, and at the show, Dell officials reportedly said they were looking at other screen sizes for the tablet beyond the 5-inch version shown.

Dell unveiled three Alienware products, including the M17x, which officials called the most powerful 17-inch gaming laptop in the world. Among the key features are the use of Intels Core i7 chips that are combined with dual graphics. In addition, the Alienware 15x 15-inch laptop offers high-definition animation, and video and audio editing.

The M11x also offers HD resolution, and the Alienware OptX AW2310 23-inch 3D monitor offers a full HD widescreen monitor for a more immersive experience and features Nvidias 3D Vision technology.

The Inspiron 14, 15 and 17 laptops offer thinner chassis, HD displays and Intels Core i5 chips. Systems powered by Core i3 processors will be available later in January, according to Dell.

Two new desktops, the Inspiron 580 and 580s, are offered with new Intel chips and a range of color choices.

The Studio 14, 15 and 17 multimedia laptops are powered by Intels i5 and i7 chips, while the Studio XPS 8100 replaces the 8000 by offering Core i5 chips.
