HTC revenues up 10% on year in 2Q09

HTC (High Tech Computer) has reported revenues of NT$38.2 billion (US$1.16 billion) for the second quarter of 2009, in line with its mid-point guidance range of NT$37.5-38.5 billion. The figures represented an increase of 20.9% on quarter and 10% on year.

Gross profits totaled NT$12.24 billion in the second quarter, up 28.8% sequentially and 2.3% on year. Gross margin stood at 32% for the quarter, slightly higher than the guidance due to cost structure improvements, according to CFO and spokesperson Cheng Hui-ming.

Net EPS before ex-rights stood at NT$8.73 in the second quarter compared to NT$6.54 in the previous quarter and NT$11.54 a year earlier.

HTC's handset shipments reached three million units during the April-June period, up from 2.4 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2009, and 2.8 million units a year earlier.

However, revenues are likely to decline slightly to NT$34-36 billion in the third quarter, while gross margins are likely to remain high at 32-33%, Chen said.

For all of 2009, revenues are expected to decline by low- to mid- single-digits from the 2008 level compared to an originally guided growth of 10%, Cheng revealed.

Gross margin for 2009 will come in at the upper level of guided range of 30-32%, Cheng added.
