S'more Spooky Cupcakes

We were in Brighton for Halloween so as a pre-Hallow's eve treat I popped into Selfridges after a fruitless trip to Westfield on its opening day for a Buttercup Cupcake, to get a couple of Lola's garishly frosted Halloween cupcakes.

As well as two pumpkin cupcakes I was tempted to try one of their 'flavour of the month' which was S'mores so we ended up with a treat and a half each! Unfortunately although the pumpkin Halloween cupcakes were lovely, lots of moreish frosting with nice soft batter base, the S'mores cupcake was a MAJOR disappointment. The base was incredibly dry - to the point I couldn't eat it, and there wasn't really any flavour to it - it was like a flavourless dry cake. The frosting was also disappointing and I'm still left wondering what flavour it was meant to be. I know S'mores are meant to be marshmallow, chocolate and wafer but there was not obvious trace of any of those flavours unfortunately! Oh well at least the Halloween ones were yummy!

Oh and I did make it back to Buttercup at Westfield the following Monday! Their 'cafe' is located near the giant Habitat in case you can't find it and it is rather tiny, with about 4 seats. It's not listed on their website for some reason but it is there honest! Luckily we got there before the queues started and we got to sit down and enjoy our cupcakes, although I'm not sure if we enjoyed them as much as the little boy next to us who had frosting from his eyebrows to his elbows - his mother was mortified but it made me giggle! While we were there a lot of people came and bought cupcakes and there seemed to be a lot of "oh thank god we found it finally"...so I wasn't the only one traipsing round looking for it! As usual their cupcakes were lovely, a moist base with lots of beautifully flavoured frosting! Their vanilla purist is one of my favourite cupcakes ever! As soon as I feel better I'm going to Kensington to get some - right now I'm so sick I don't think I could even manage a cupcake...the horror!!!

Cupcakes are the best gift!

I met my lovely friend Helen for coffee earlier this week and she brought along two gorgeous and scrummy cupcakes from Lola's Kitchen @ Selfridges for myself and Manny. You can't help but love people who give you cupcakes ;)
* Please note - we like Helen even without the cupcakes - I'm not that fickle!!!

Today we celebrate our Independence Day

Celebrate the 4th July with a delicious box of LOLA's red velvet, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. Each gift box will contain cupcakes iced in red, white & blue and decorated in an assortment of sprinkles & images with an American theme.

Lola's will be sampling red velvet cupcakes at Selfridges on Friday 4th July for the "United Tastes of America" - I shall be there at about 10am! I hope they're doing single red velvet ones - they're my favourite, although I'll get a box if I really have to ;)
Happy 4th July my American chums - wish I was in NY to celebrate!!!!

Fathers Day Cupcakes

It's Fathers Day here tomorrow in the UK and if you're in London it's not too late to pop to Selfridges to get your dad a few cupcakes from Lola's Kitchen! Unfortunately my step-dad is far oop North in Scotland so it's a bit difficult to get them up to him but I did get him this lovely cupcake Fathers Day card from Scribbler :)

Sex and the City cupcakes - part two

I had some very bad news a few days ago and I seem to have eaten a TONNE of cupcakes and little else - thought I'd post some pics of those I've eaten!

First up was some Sex and the City cupcakes from Lolas at Selfridges which were really nice. I went in today and they still have the SATC range in stock! I think the films so popular they might be making them for some time :)

Celebrating the release of Sex and the City

Today the movie FINALLY opened in London and I went to see it at the first showing of the day. It was also the first time I EVER went to the cinema alone but I just HAD to see it! And it was worth it - funny, sad, romantic, rude - I loved every second and cried like a girl at the end :) I could gush on about the movie for hours but I shalln't as cupcakes dont even get a mention in it!

Afterwards I felt I just HAD to have a cupcake so I headed to Selfridges to get a Sex and the City cupcake from Lola's but alas they were no longer doing them and more horrifically they only had TWO cupcakes left - both their cupcake of the month, Strawberry with white chocolate so I snapped both of them up :) As usual they were really nice, the frosting was really nice and not too sickly but the base was a little dry but it was still a great cupcake - I especially liked the strawberry bits in the base and the yummy chocolate coated strawberry on top of the lovely frosting!

Nothing to do with Lola's as such but, the staff in Selfridges just get ruder by the day - the man was soooo busy avoiding doing work I nearly had to hit him with a baguette to get his attention!
Also I read in the paper today that the Berkley Hotel is having a Sex and the City afternoon tea this week including cupcakes - its a bit pricy at 45 but if you're interested further info here. They're also doing Sex and the City nights, with cupcakes, more info here.

Finally - go see the SATC movie NOW!! Honestly it rules - some cupcakes would make it even better!
Oh yeah and I didn't eat both cupcakes myself - I took one to Manny at work as a surprise before he went off to a gig tonight :)

Sex and the City Cupcakes

were launched today at Selfridges made by the ever wonderful Lolas :)

Although I couldn't make it, my lovely chum, and fellow cupcake enthusiast, Helen went there before meeting me for coffee at Candy Cakes and got me this lovely "I love the big apple" cupcake which was all glittery and fabulous! As you may notice I lost my "l" and a smidgen of "e" on the way home but it still tasted as wonderful as I have come to expect them, all light and yummy with super frosting! I adore the glitter and the fact that the cupcake speaks the truth - I DO love the big apple!!!!!

I'm going there tomorrow to get Manny a "Samantha" one - so be prepared for more pics! All the while singing the theme tune to the show in my head and imagining I'm not on Oxford Street but on Park Avenue being fabulous (in my imagination I wont be in jeans and trainers but some fancy frock and big shoes which in reality would cripple me and my flat feet!)

I can't wait to see the movie...wonder if they'll have cupcakes in the cinema!!

The cult of the cupcake...

They are calling it the Marie Antoinette diet. And even Victoria Beckham, who strives to be Hollywood's most fashionable - and thinnest - woman, has become a convert to the latest food fad: the cult of the cupcake

Firstly who'd have thought that stick thin "Posh" eats anything never mind the alleged cupcake a day, secondly I googled the Marie Antoinette diet the Daily Mail's article yesterday refers to and boo hiss I can't find anything about it. The press is LYING to me! Here was me thinking there was some kind of cupcake diet I could follow, literally having my cupcake and eating it, but alas its a lie! Although having said that even with the amount of cupcakes I'm eating I'm still losing weight so they MUST be good for you! How could something so cute and tasty possibly be bad for me anyhow!

Lots of stuff about cupcakes can be found here in the article about Heidi Klum and cupcakes. Its basically a rehash of the Telgraph article from last week, where again Sex and the City gets full credit for getting us all eating cupcakes.

Again there's mention of the Sex and the City themed cupcakes at Selfridges but no further info, I'm going to have to take a trip down there this week to investigate!
Also thanks to Helen for sending me the link yesterday am - she knows me so well!!

No one can resist a cupcake

Even supermodels can't resist them according to the article in The Telegraph on cupcakes this weekend. You can read the online version here.

According to the article, Selfridges are going to have a Sex and the City themed collection to launch the much anticipated (well by me!!!!) movie which comes out in May but I can't find anything on their website so will have to find out more asap! Any excuse for more cupcakes! I wonder if I can persuade Manny to take me to the movie AND for cupcakes!

The article has a list of places to visit for cupcakes and who knew that Hummingbird sells about 20,000 cupcakes a week!!!! And I promise that its not me eating them all!

Happy St George's Day

As promised I went to Selfridges today to get my Lola's St George's Day cupcake and it was rather scrummy! Don't worry they weren't all for me - one was for Manny to have after he's been to his St George's Day gig (Saxon), and the odd one out was their special Selfridges flavour of the month Choc Chai Latte - which I wasn't keen on at all - was full of cinnamon which I like but not that much!

Her name was Lola....

And she wasn't a showgirl, BUT she did make exceedingly good cupcakes! I honestly didn't mean to eat these many cupcakes in a week BUT I had an impromptu days leave last week and decided to go to shopping up town. This led to me walking for MILES hrough crowds of irritating people and finally after the hell that is Primark at lunchtime I NEEDED to go somewhere lovely and peaceful, and that place was the food hall in Selfridges, where I stumbled upon Lolas. Okay, I knew it was there and it was my very reason for going there but like I said I needed something nice after Primark!

I got myself a vanilla (insisting on pink - the girl serving wasn't one of the usual nice staff and seemed perturbed I specified what frosting colour I wanted..pshaw she obviously did not fully comprehend the significance the colour can make!) and Manny a chocolate. I resisted the urge to get two each so we could try the lovely looking Pistachio Cupcake (current flavour of the month - check here for all available flavours). I also resisted the urge to eat them on the way home and instead waited patiently till I was in the house, before scoffing mine with a cup of tea. I was drooling while taking the pics - aren't they just stunning looking! It was worth the wait, all vanilly goodness with frosting you want to drown yourself in, and you very nearly could - look how thick that frosting is!!! I then had to further avoid temptation as Manny was at the forge blacksmithing and his cake was calling me from the kitchen..however I was a good girl and made do with my own one! Greed is a sin you know ;)

North West London cupcake tour...

Planning the cupcakes tours is half the fun - I get to drool over pictures of cupcakes and plan routes (this is Mannys favourite part as he can spend ages perusing maps!). So having successfully completed the cupcake tour of SW London, we are busy planning the NW London equivalent, hopefully for next month. So far we have 3 places to visit including the rather fab looking Primrose Bakery in Primrose Hill. I've already had their cupcakes from Selfridges and they're lovely, but nothing better than getting them straight from the source!! Don't they look GORGEOUS!!!!

HUGE cupcake

Oh my!!! Whilst doing my usual Sunday night cupcake searching I came across http://www.sweetthings.biz/, an online bakery based in Primrose Hill, London (with some items available in Selfridges). Then I found this incredible looking beast of a cupcake - supposedly it serves 12 and is about 9" big - I bet I could manage a whole one ;) well I'd give it a go anyways..lol

Theres a chocolate one as well so looks like Manny's birthday cake's sorted!
