Budding blogger : Kaveri

Meet Kaveri of Palakkad Chamayal blog in the Budding blogger segment ..

She says --

This is Kaveri from Palakkad chamayal. I am a mother of 2 lovely daughters. I get immense pleasure and satisfaction in cooking for my family and loved ones.

Though cooking is my passion and I have a diary or two full of recipes I never dreamt of starting a blog. A few months back, a friend of mine asked me to share some recipes and I did so. She was the one who suggested that I start a food blog. And there my blog was born. Though a native of Palakkad I have lived in many cities all over India. So I acquired the taste for all kinds of cuisines like North Indian, Karnataka, and Andhra etc. Through this blog I would like to first share all the traditional Palakkad Vegetarian recipes which have been passed down to me from my mom and mom-in-law and then I would like to pen down other recipes which I have learnt from friends, acquaintances, TV and other media.

I would like to use this as a forum to learn and share recipes from fellow bloggers. Please do feel free to leave your suggestions and feedback.

Budding blogger: Zenobia

Meet Zenobia of RAWk Me !! in the budding blogger segment

She says--

Hello everyone. I'm Zenobia. I'm born and brought up in Mumbai and work as a writer at an eLearning company. In my free time, I run a blog on raw vegan foods.

I'm 100% vegan, and try to be as raw as is humanly possible. Coming from a largely non-vegetarian eating community in India, I've always had an uneasy relationship with meat. I knew it was bad (for a lot of reasons - You take your pick), but was too lazy to cook my own stuff and continued to go with the flow. But as I watched more and more food documentaries that are critical of our current food production practices, I finally decided to get off my behind and put my money where my mouth is.

I have always been fascinated with food - but from a distance. I loved watching people cook on TV or staring at photos online, but cooking really didnt seem up my ally - Until recently. Well, I still don't cook much. I prefer things fresh and quick to put together. So, my menus feature heavily on salads, and easy to put together meal ideas and recipes. And, since I have not been trained in cooking, so to speak, I love mixing seemingly odd flavors and foods items. My philosophy about food is - try it, what have you got to lose?! If it doesnt taste good, throw it and start all over.

Hope you all will make the time to visit my blog and give me your blessings.

Budding blogger: Latha

Meet Latha of Latha's Kitchen in this week's budding blogger segment

She says --

I love cooking, trying out new recipes. I have 2 kids who are quite fussy with food which pushes me to try out new recipes to interest them. I have been browsing different recipe blogs for the past 1 year and have just started my own blog since last month (December 2010). Though i try out different cuisines, I have updated my blog with only those dishes whose recipes are passed down from my mother, mother-in-law and my aunts. Once I exhaust with all these recipes, I shall update the recipes I try out sourced from the net.

I'm from Bangalore, hence I know to prepare traditional Karnataka recipes, which I update in my blog as and when I prepare them, which is quite often. Other than than, since my roots are from Andhra/Tamil nadu border, I have been taught to prepare Andhra dishes as well. So, my blog contains Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil nadu cuisines. I have used simplified methods and short cuts in most of my recipes since it is easier when managing 2 school going kids. Please go through my blog, feel free to put forward queries if any and you are welcome to put in your suggestions and advice in it.

Looking forward to meet you on my blog.

Budding blogger: Shilpi

Meet Shilpi of It is tasty Ma ! blog in the budding blogger series this week..

She says --

I was born and brought up in Bombay, India; journalism happened to me almost by accident. It was not a career that I had planned or even wanted to take up, but once I got into it I enjoyed it immensely.

Food and travel was a source of joy, something which I enjoyed during my leisure time. I also had the good fortune of doing restaurant reviews during the course of my career as a journalist. Therefore, some years back when I gave up journalism and I began to miss my first love - writing, I decided to take up food blogging in August 2010. After all it is an excellent way to combine my first love -- writing -- with my source of joyfood and travel.

The inspiration and the star of this blog is my mother. She is a passionate cook and still very active in the kitchen. We are Bengalis so obviously Bengali cuisine is what you would find on our dining table but my mum not only enjoys cooking but also likes to experiment with other cuisines as well; some of these recipes are also featured in my blog. Besides recipes I will also take my readers on a culinary journey as I try different kinds of delightful food both in Bombay as well as other towns and cities.

Hope you join me in this journey

Budding blogger: Reva

Meet Reva of Kaarasaaram blog in the Budding blogger segment..dont forget to check out her recipes featured in the media..

She says -

I am Reva [short form of Revathi], a true Coimbatorean [TamilNadu] and a Doctor by profession. I am blessed with a wonderful husband who was my classmate, my friend and now we share our lives together and our 2yr old daughter "Laya". I am not an expert cook or even a normal cook but I am a foodie of all seasons. I love to eat dishes belonging to any cuisine or cooking style. Before I started cooking, I've always thought what was so "hard" or even "great" about cooking. Only when I started doing it myself, I realised how wrong I was. Both my parents are doctors and my mom [bless her] was very efficient at managing the household and work. Weekdays were filled with home cooked delicious food and weekends were reserved for restaurant delights.

The main reason I started blogging was my love of photography. I cannot take photographs of dishes prepared by someone else and pass it on as mine...it wont be fair, isn't it? I believe in "Quality more than Quantity" and my blog features food from my native place, Cuisines of India and the world.

Rather than saying that a dish belongs to South India or North India, I want to be a little more specific. It is because every dish represents the tradition, beliefs, culture, type of soil in that place, the weather conditions and the occupation of the people in that particular place. That it what India is all about "Unity in Diversity".
I have categorized recipes under specific labels such as "Vataara Samaiyal", "Cuisine of Kongunad" and "Journey of the Biryani" and many more to follow like "Village cooking/Herbal Traditional cooking/Food as Remedies". This is to showcase to the world the science behind our cooking style, the medicinal value of ingredients used in our recipes and how these age old recipes were evolved.

This doesn't mean I limit my culinary adventures. My favourite cuisine is Ethiopian and Thai as I feel both have so much in common to our cooking style and tastes. Recently my recipes have been published in a entertainment magazine named "Kaana Peena Gaana Naachna" for this holiday season by the "Asian Voice" newspaper which is the largest selling paper in UK and Europe.

I thanks you for reading through this introduction. It is upto experts like my fellow bloggers to say whether my dishes are good or my photographs are good. Please do visit my blog and leave your valuble comments as I am no expert in cooking or writing. Your comments will help me improve and improvise.

Budding blogger: Komala

Meet Komala from A Margi's platter in the budding blogger series

She says-

This blog is a dedication to my beloved husband who is a Margi, a follower of Shrii Shrii Anandamurthi. As a Margi he practises yoga and meditation which requires him to consume food that helps to keep the mind clear and sharpen concentration. These are called saatvik or sentient food.

When I newly got married, cooking for my husband was a tough task as cooking without onion & garlic is a nightmare for an Indian women. I did my best but I wouldn't touch it and Im lucky enough, he eats without a complaint. So, begin my quest for cooking. I searched for new recipes all the time, internet, magazines, cookbooksas the saying goes the way to a mans heart is through his mouth.

Gradually, my cooking improved as I mastered the secret ingredient to make delicious vegetarian cuisines. All the recipes in this blog have been tried and tested & modified by me. I hope it will be useful to fellow vegetarians.

Budding blogger : Indian cookery

Meet the author of Indian cookery blog today in Budding blogger segment

I welcome you to my blog ! I am a happy Indian homemaker and just want to share some of the seemingly difficult recipes in cookery and certain tips that would help while working on intricate recipes. The *idea of creating a cookery blog* emerged from constant searches for Indian recipes over the internet for relatively easy-to-make dishes. As a teenager, I had constantly watched various cookery shows on television and was eager to try out them just after the show. I used to wait to hear comments on the dishes from my parents and brothers. Several years later (that is after I got married and had a kid), I still yearned to learn to cook new dishes and eventually comments from my husband and in-laws.

I would like to share the lessons that I learnt and how to make cooking somewhat simpler without compromising on nutrition and taste.

Also, over the years, it occurred to me that there needs to be at least an online scrap to look back and help re-inherit our culture. Our culture and various festivities had been the cause for celebration and interactions between people. I would also like to describe some of the food associated with various festivals and how to make them.

In short, this blog contains basic tips for food preparation which are required for a typical Indian Family. I look forward to have your support and wishes.

Budding blogger: Prathima

Meet Prathima from Prats Corner in the Budding blogger series...

Here is what Prathima has to say ...

Hello to all! I`m Prathima from Mangalore. Welcome to ' Prats Corner '.I am a MBA grad, quit my job recently and now exploring the world of cooking under Amma`s guidance. I am absolutely passionate about cooking! Amma is an expert cook and has vast recipe collection - old and new. The two of us together make a great team - trying out a wide variety of dishes. One thing I have learnt from Amma is that the main ingredient for a perfect dish is 'passion for cooking'.

As I have a lot of free time now, I keep browsing the net for recipes and came across a number of blogs featuring wonderful recipes and that is when I got the idea of blogging and posting Amma`s recipe collection. My blog has been in the making for quite sometime now and finally here it is - Prats Corner.

Every meal we eat defines our mood and energy to carry on our day-to-day activities. Healthy eating is not depriving yourself of the food you love (of course one can occasionally reward oneself too!). It is about looking healthy and feeling energetic. At 'Prats Corner' you will find various healthy & tasty recipes, recipes from India and from around the world, recipes for entertaining etc. Also, soon to be introduced are various home remedies, skin and hair care tips, health tips etc etc. Do drop in to my blog and post your valuable comments and be a follower.

And remember, for a less stressful life, wake up every morning with a positive thought and you will be amazed too see how smoothly the day progresses. When having a meal, enjoy what you are eating instead of simply complaining about day`s events. A healthy mind can lead the way to a healthy body!
