Sony Ericsson has launched its latest feature phone, the Zylo, in the Taiwan market in cooperation with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), which will promote the handset in a preferential package targeting the younger generation.
According to FET, the feature phone segment remains important in Taiwan, with over 70% of handset users still using feature phones. With the growing prominence of tablets and other portable Internet devices, FET believes there will be a market for simpler handsets, especially in the youth segment where the high price tags of smartphones remain a barrier.
Users under 25 account for 20% of FET's subscribers. FET also represents a 27% share of the under-25 market in Taiwan, the carrier indicated.
