Plotech expects HDI board orders from handset vendors to buoy 3Q10 sales

PCB maker Plotech Technology has revealed that its Kunshan, China plant has seen HDI board orders from several brand handset vendors growing. The orders will be its major growth driver in the third quarter of 2010.

Clients for Plotech's handset HDI boards include Motorola, Samsung Electronics and Pantech, indicated industry watchers.

Due to increasing orders from brand handset clients, Plotech has managed to lower the proportion of HDI boards shipped to white-box handset makers in China to 10% of its total HDI board shipments from the previous 70-80%, the company noted.

Plotech's plant in Taiwan currently has a production capacity of 150,000 square feet PCBs a month, while the Kunshan plant has a monthly capacity of 300,000 square feet, of which 50% is for HDI boards. The company also operates a plant in Huiyang, China which is capable of rolling out 750,000 square feet traditional PCBs a month.
