Android emerged as a mobile platform in 2007 and since then, it has gained exponential popularity and turned mobile application development into a revolution.
As such, a myriad of mobile companies are employing the power and versatility of Android. With a wealth of features directly applicable to building mobile applications, Android is becoming ever more popular among mobile application developers.
Lets take a look at some of the most recent Android-specific stats:
* Around 100,000 Android-based phones are activated every day.
* It's on 60 devices from 21 OEM makers on 59 carriers in 48 countries.
* There are 50,000 apps in the Android market place.
* In the first quarter, Android was the second-best-selling smartphone OS in the U.S., after RIM's BlackBerry.
* The Android mobile phone market is growing at an impressive rate of 32 per cent every month, with new handsets being released all the time.
What Android books should be delivering...
A lot of Android books have been published recently but most of them focus on experienced or advanced users. However, in reality, there exists a range of audiences for information on Android, running from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals. So, there's a need for books to meet the requirements of these different audiences.
