Fridays Pick and Mix #8

LONDON, England - As another busy week draws to a close, its time once more for this weeks round-up of articles on other blogs and websites that caught our eye and seemed worth passing on to readers here. Were not fussy about the size or financial status of the sites we link to: if its handy and its mobile, then it gets a word here. If we havent noticed something that youve found recently, then do tip us off in the comments.

* Thanks to The Symbian Blog for pointing out some great hints and tips videos from Nokia India which illustrate shortcuts for getting around Nokia Messaging and Mail for Exchange. Having recently inherited a rather battered but still perfectly usable Nokia E71, I found these especially useful.
* Via. thefonecast.com come predictions that it is social networking sites and gaming that will drive adoption of the mobile internet: 55% of UK consumers aged 18-34 [said] social networking services would encourage them to use the mobile web more?. Though, more soberly, current use of these services is driven by email, with three-quarters of American mobile internet users and two-thirds of Brits using their mobile devices to check their messages.
* An interesting video introducing some of the ideas around MeeGo from MeeGoZone. Its targeted at developers, but is worth watching for anyone interested in the capabilities and ambitions of the platform.
* US research outfit Pew Internet has released its Mobile Access 2010 survey. Theres lots to mull over in the report, though it focuses only on American users, but one headline figure that sticks out is that 59% of adults now access the internet wirelessly using a laptop or cell phone?.
* As someone who suffers from intermittent broadband failure at very inconvenient moments, I was grateful for this nifty guide to using your Nokia smartphone as a modem from My Nokia Blog. Theres also a bonus feature-ette on texting from your desktop using Ovi Suite, a capability you might have overlooked if you mainly use it for synchronisation and backup.

Thats it for this week. As ever, leave us links to anything interesting and mobile in the comments and well be sure to check them out for next weeks round-up.
