Wintek reportedly has landed touch panel orders from Research in Motion (RIM) and Motorola and expects to turn profitable in the second quarter of 2010, according to a Chinese-language report on Economic Daily News.
Wintek, which also makes small- to medium-size LCD panels, declined to comment on the report.
The report noted that touch panels accounted for 38% of Wintek's total revenues in the first quarter of 2010 and over 50% in April, and are expected to reach 60% in the second half of 2010.
Wintek has announced consolidated revenues of NT$4.73 billion for May, up 26.98% sequentially and 137.69% on year. Consolidated revenues for the first five months of 2010 totaled NT$16.04 billion, up 65.7% on year.
Wintek's touch panel production has yet to reach full capacity, and its plant in Dongguan, China will complete a capacity expansion project in the third quarter of 2010 covering production from front-end ITO films to back-end modules, market sources noted.
