South Korea's smartphone exports topped US$300 million in May 2010, up 135% on year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.Overall handset exports however, declined by 29.8% from a year earlier to US$1.75 billion due to lower ASP and increased production overseas.
In the first quarter, South Korea's vendors grabbed a 5.4% share of the global smartphone market, up modestly from 5.2% in the fourth quarter of 2009.
With strong sales in the emerging markets for feature phones with touch panels, South Korea-based vendors owned a 32.1% share of the handset market worldwide in the first quarter.
