A top Sony executive spills some beans about the rumoured PSP mobile phone
Gaming on a mobile that slippery soap bar no ones really grasped properly. Ideally, what wed like to see is our favourite PlayStation games on a mobile.
Well, thats just what one Sony executive thinks too. Talking to The Economic Times in India, Sony Computer Entertainment co-chief operating officer Jim Ryan said Convergence with [Sony Ericsson and PlayStation] working together is definitely plausible.
What with Sony Ericsson working its magic on the successful Walkman brand, and the Bravia brand overseas, a PSP phone seems as inevitable as tomorrow.
Though Ryans comments are hardly a commitment its still darn tootin promising, to say the least. We presume a PSP phone would play some excellent titles, and be a gaming phone that stands out from the others. Or other, ie Nokias N-Gage range.
Ryan supposes the device would be a PSP with a built in phone function, rather than the other way round, as a mobiles buttons and screen would make gaming a bit rubbish.
Of course, dont confuse this with the PSPs VoIP capabilities we mentioned earlier this year.
But rather than dismissing Sonys attempts at a PSP phone as futile, considering mobile gaming has taken off like a balloon tied to the ground, its worth remembering Sony was the one who reinvented console gaming back in 90s. Can it happen again?
