Look what I found at the KCC Farmers Market this morning! Lilikoi Mochi! It was no accident, I did not stumble upon this box of mochi by luck. Last week's issue of Midweek featured an article highlighting the various places in the island that make and sell their mochi. I had been to all but one...
"One of the best broke da mout mochi finds is at Saturdays farmers market at Kapiolani Community College near Diamond Head."
Gasp, and I didn't know?!

So off this morning, bright and early to the market. I picked up an orchid for my mom focaccia for dad, and mochi for us all. It was terribly difficult to pick from the wide variety of flavors, "If theres a classification for gourmet mochi, this would get my vote for beskine...fresh strawberry mochi, chocolate truffles wrapped in mochi, peanut butter, sweet potato haupia, cheesecake and a variety of chichi dango including strawberry, lilikoi, blueberry, green tea, strawberry walnut, and chocolate haupia." But after much deliberation I settled on a pack of the lilikoi cheesecake.

The filling is not the most visually charming as far as mochi goes, but in this case you must forgive and forget because it is so ono! The soft, chewy round of mochi hugs a filling composed of layers of lilikoi curd whipped with cream cheese and bits of graham cracker crust. I didn't find it sweet at all and the lilikoi flavor shines though nice and strong. It was pricey at $5 for three, but I don't think that will stop me from coming back for the sweet potato haupia mochi next week!
