In 101 days we shall be arriving in New York and its like some cupcake fairy is watching out for us and opening new fantastic sounding cupcake stores JUST for us to try!!

According to the experts at Cupcakes Take the Cake the cupcakes at the newly opened Butter Lane cupcakes are "one of the best cupcakes in NYC"....AND the store is about 4 minutes walk from where we are staying in NY...its fate I tell you :)

Thanks to Rachel from Cupcakes Take the Cake for her pics - they look fantastic! If you listen carefully you can hear Manny drool over the chocolate ones ;)

Looking for a bit of private time with your cupcake?

Lovers of cupcakes, hold onto your frosting. Magnolia Bakery has opened a private party room in its Upper West Side space (which is certified kosher), setting the stage for kids (and adults too, who are we kidding) to get together and celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or just a passion for buttercream.

The space can accommodate up to 35 adults for a cocktail party and 24 for a seated event. Rental costs start at $500 for two hours and include a choice of two-dozen cupcakes or one of the bakerys delectable cakes.

The Childrens Party Package ($750 for 90 minutes) includes a personalized Magnolia cake, as well as pizza, juice, milk and cupcakes and, most importantly, fun for twelve children (as well as treats, coffee and tea for the adults)!

Staff-led activities include:
 Design Your Own Chef Hat
 Make Your Own Colored Sprinkles
Cupcake Icing with Magnolias signature frosting

Each child takes home-customized Magnolia goody bag filled with three jars of Magnolia hand-colored sprinkles, a mini-baking utenstil set, and mini cupcake pan.

Magnolia Bakery on the UWS is located at 200 Columbus Avenue, corner of 69th Street, 212-724-8101.

And another...

They are breeding like rabbits I tell you!

Ok that is it! No more looking for cupcake places in NY!

Number 33 is Lassen and Hennings in Brooklyn Heights which I've just read do FABULOUS red velvet cupcakes!

Oh yummy!

The NY Cupcake Tour continues to grow

We were already at a staggering THIRTY ONE cupcake places to try and visit when we go in March, when I happened upon a post I'd missed previously on one of my favourite blogs - Serious Eats New York. Now with the addition of Penny Licks in Williamsburg we are looking at 32 (aaaargh!!!) - to manage it we'll have to eat 4 cupcakes every day for the 8 days we're there!!!!

They do look too good to miss off the tour though don't they!!!?

Pic courtesy of Serious Eats - thank you :)

The ultimate guide to Red Velvet cupcakes

Good grief...Abby Denson of The City Sweet Tooth blog has been a busy bee! Her fantastic guide to the best red velvet cupcakes in NY appears in the L Magazine and is intended to be a "field guide and checklist to assist NYC's cupcake fiends on their quest for red velvety goodness"

Seriously, I think I heart Abby a little right now - not only has she provided me with a fab checklist but also even MORE cupcake places to add to my tour of NY!

Holy moly, more NY cupcakes!

I keep finding more - I have a feeling we're not going to be able to try all the cupcakes I've found in NY.

Number 21 on our cupcake tour of NY is Tribeca Treats, which has some rather yummy looking cupcakes! The fact that they have four normal flavours then between 2-4 specials scares me as if I go there I'm bound to want to try them all, especially if they have the fluffer nutter and s'mores flavours! I know Manny wont be able to resist their chocolate cakes! Even the above pic will make him drool ;)

I am never going to be thin with all this temptation!!!!

We've hit the big 20!!

I'm currently busy planning my cupcake tour of NY for March and we have now hit 20 cupcake places to be visited in 8 days. The 20th cupcake store to add to the list is How Sweet it Is, and its about 10mins from where we're staying! wuhu! (so far we have about 4 cupcakeries within a 10minute radius..HEAVEN!)

I've been doing some googling (a girl has to do her research!!) and I like the sound of their spicy Mexican chocolate cupcakes...yummy! These sheep cupcakes look FAB!

Thanks to Pam S for the pic of the bakery - it looks cute as a cupcake :)

Nonparelis???

Today I was browsing Eleni's website as part of my quest to find all the great cupcake places in New York for my holiday!!). Whenever I looked at the descriptions of their scrumptious looking cupcakes one word kept cropping up...nonparelis. Having NO idea what this was I immediately Wikipedia'd it and lo and behold its a fancy name for sprinkles...well fatter rounder sprinkles! (does that make me the nonparelis of the human world???!). Are Eleni's reverting to the use of this old fashioned word after hearing about Sprinkles fondness for lawsuits..just incase?

Anyways nonparelis or sprinkles, who cares - how much do these pics make you want to lick the frosting off Leroy? *

By the way incase anyone is interested there are currently 177 days till I get to New York and the tour currently stands at 18 cupcake stores!!! My current plan is not to eat anything but soup from New Years till March in anticipation of cupcake overload!

*Leroy is the fancy pink cupcake above not some random man I wish to lick frosting from!

I've already got my cupcake tour of New York planned - along with maps and everything, but have now found a couple of new places to visit thanks to Natalie's blog!
I shall definitely be checking out some of her recommendations! For the full list and photos go to her blog :)

I like big butts and I cannot lie

The Big Booty Bread Co on W.23rd Street in New York has been confounding me - I've tried to find its website (have you tried putting Big Booty in Google!?) but although I can't find its official site (I'm still working on it) I have found a zillion reviews claiming that they make the best red velvet and Dulce de leche (drool) cupcakes in NY.

I simply MUST visit it -and buy one of those fantastic shirts for Manny - luckily he does indeed "heart big booty" as you could park a bus in the shadow of mine ;) And this is probably because since I read about Dulce de leche booty buns I've been practically licking the pic on my screen!

The thin girl can keep screaming - she is NEVER getting out!

New Yorks top cupcakery?

So last time we went to New York we only got round to going to Buttercup, and we loved it so much we just kinda stuck with it - in truth it was sooooo hot there we barely ate, drinking more Vitamin Water than much else.

However when we go next year, its going to be cold, perfect weather for stocking up on cupcakes to keep us warm so I've been searching where to go - there are so many to choose from and the Zagat list of New Yorks best cupcakes suggests...

1. Sugar Sweet Sunshine
2. Amys Bread
3. Baked BKLYN*
3. Billys Bakery*
3. Make My Cake*
* indicates a tie for 3rd place
I've been spending a LOT of time online researching my planned birthday cupcake tour so expect more New York cupcake posts over the next few months :)
