Computex 2010: Taiwan network equipment makers complete for spotlight

At Computex 2010, Taiwan-based network equipment makers are presenting their solutions for use in digital home applications, cloud computing and smart grids.

Accton Technology, along with subsidiaries Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB), Edge-Core and SMC Networks, is showcasing its NGN (next generation network) equipment for cloud computing networks, including its high-capacity, wire-speed high density 10G data center switches and passive optical network (PON) solutions. The lineup includes: infrastructure backbone for cloud computing from data centers, various last mile solutions such as WiMAX CPE, Fiber CPE, xDSL CPE and 3G Wi-Fi routers, and broadband-enabled advanced application gateways to provide integrated voice/data/security at home.

Meanwhile, Gemtek Technology is displaying core technologies to help realize the digital home, namely its SiP (system-in-package) and wireless HDMI solutions, 3G modules, and mobile Internet device G-touch solution.

AzureWave Technologies, an affiliate of Asustek Computer, is highlighting its wireless solutions designed for PCs and notebooks, handheld and consumer electronics. The company stated it is looking to help users realize hassle-free wireless and mobile connectivity and allow then to take advantage of the new era of wireless entertainment.

Billion Electric has unveiled a full range of smart grid solutions, including BPL AMI modules, MV/LV concentrators and energy management solutions like PLC adapter and ZigBee gateways. The company is showcasing what it claims is the most up-to-date networking product lineup, including FTTx solutions, powerline products and many other home and SOHO network solutions.

AboCom Systems has also developed its portfolio of smart grid devices, which are spotlighted at its booth along with its Wi-Fi and wireless HD (high-definition) products.
