Bangladesh WiMAX operator places CPE orders with Accton

Bangla Lion Communications, a WiMAX licensee in Bangladesh, has placed orders for 10,000 WiMAX CPE devices with Taiwan-based Accton Technology and is negotiating orders with Zyxel Communications, according to company chairman Abdul Manan.

Bangla Lion's purchases of CPE products include USB network cards, indoor and outdoor WiMAX terminal-end devices, noted Manan, who also said that he will contact suppliers who offer netbooks with a built-in WiMAX modules.

Bangla Lion plans to invest US$250 million to build up its WiMAX infrastructure in the next five years, aiming to increase the number of the company's WiMAX base stations to 6,000 from 900 currently, Manan stated.

Manan was in Taipei attending the Broadband Taiwan 2009 exhibition taking place from October 26-28.
