AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced that core wireline employees in its West Region (CWA District 9) have voted to ratify a three-year agreement with the Communications Workers of America. The agreement covers about 23,000 employees in California and Nevada.
A total of about 57,500 employees roughly half of those covered under AT&Ts core wireline contracts now have ratified or tentative agreements. AT&T and the CWA announced on Aug. 7 ratification of a new contract in the Midwest Region (CWA District 4). Pending ratification are tentative agreements for employees covered under the Legacy AT&T Corp. (CWA Communications and Technology unit) contract, and a contract with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 21.
The four agreements are proof that, even in tough economic times and in the midst of major changes in the marketplace and the telecommunications industry, the company and unions can work together to maintain good union jobs with wages and benefits that are among the best in the country.
Negotiations are continuing in other regions where contracts expired on April 4, as they did in Midwest, West, and Legacy T. They include East (CWA District 1), and Southwest (CWA District 6). Negotiations are also continuing in Southeast (CWA District 3), where contracts expired Aug. 8.
A total of about 120,000 employees are covered under the various contracts.
