Emerging HSPA+ networks may hamper LTE deployment, say sources

A growing number of carriers worldwide have begun to deploy HSPA+ networks that are capable of offering download speeds of up to 21-28Mbps at present and 42-84Mbps later. The developments may affect the deployment of the LTE technology which can provide a download speed of up to 100Mbps, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

A total of 11 HSPA+ networks went into commercial operations in the past six months, and nearly 30 carriers worldwide have started either testing or building HSPA+ networks, according to data compiled by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA).
