Most handset component makers see revenues decline in November

Most leading Taiwan-based handset component suppliers suffered a sequential decline of 10-30% in revenues in November as handset vendors sharply reduced their component orders, according to market sources.

Merry Electronics, a supplier of handset-use acoustic solutions, led the decline with its consolidated revenues tumbling 29.3% sequentially to NT$602 million (US$17.9 million) in November. The November revenues also represented a decline of 31.9% from a year ago.

As Merry is conservative over the outlook for December, the company is expected to see a setback in its revenues for all of 2008 as compared to the amount it recorded in 2007, according to market sources.

Ichia Technologies, a supplier of handset keypads and flexible PCBs, saw its revenues slide 20.9% sequentially in November after revenues hit a record high in October, whereas keypad supplier Silitech Technology also suffered a 10.6% sequential decline in revenues last month.
