After morning and afternoon adventures in Chinatown and Abrao, I made the short walk back to the apartment, all smiles. Sometimes it's really crazy when I smile for no reason at all...I'm sure strangers on the street must think I'm high on drugs or something. But no. Just high on life. And food :) I took a little break back home, made a cup of tea and wrote that previous post. The sun was still up at six, and seven. And I wanted to go out again. So I did.

I walked back to Chinatown without thinking and because for some odd reason, felt a hankering for another bowl of chicken curry ho funn, even thought I just had that dish less than 12 hours ago. But I do not question cravings (except for when I ate an entire pint of Chubby Hubby late last night), and so went to New Chao Chow on Mott for dinner. I sat at a big table with five strangers, all slurping big bowls of noodle soups. The order was easy, "galee gai funn, ho funn," - it arrived in less than five minutes. I don't know if I like the dish better here or at Bo Ky. At Bo Ky, this curry is never served hot enough, temperature-wise. I prefer my hot foods very hot, and cold foods very cold. Chao Chow serves it piping hot, and I burned my tongue, hooray. That's how I like it. But Bo Ky gives chicken, potatoes, AND eggplant. Chao Chow leaves out the eggplant -_-. The curry base here is also noticeably heavier on coconut milk, so if you like it coconutty, Chao Chow would be a better move.
Oh! One more thing.
The ho funn at Bo Ky is a bagazillion times thinner and wider, making for texturally pleasing mouth slippage. One more point for Bo Ky. Now if only they would just serve it at a hotter temperature...

On the way back, I walked past the pancake man on Grand. I did not plan to stop by because I wanted banana pudding for dessert. But distractions occur, as often happens, and before you know it, I found myself in line.

"All Natural Hot Mini Cakes...20 pcs for $1"

The hotcakes man is the nicest fellow ever, and I ended up monching away those 20 pieces on the street, chatting with him while he served up more customers. He spoke of the new guy with the cream cakes machine, (a fancier version of the pancakes if you will), operating less than ten feet away from him. I told him there was no reason to be worried about business because his hotcakes smelled a lot better, and besides, the other dude sells 8 pieces for $2, while he did 20 pieces for $1! Additionally, the fact that he operates out of a cart instead of a fancy stand with gadgets squeezing cream into hotcakes was much more appealing. So. Please go to this hotcakes guy. Friendly fellow. Hot Cakes. And only $1!

Yay!!! Pancakes, doesn't it just make you sooo happy just to look at these itty bitty squishy sweet creatures?

Well, the pancakes made me happy and thirsty so I stopped in at the Egg Custard King Cafe, a block further east. I thought to finish the evening with an egg custard tart and milk tea. But then I patted my budging belly, and thought, well maybe I should pass on the custard tart and just do with milk tea.

And so I did, taking the warm cup of milky happiness to a table in the back, melted into the plastic chair and watched Chinese game shows on the television.
Ahhh, Sunday :)
