Cinnamon's

We�re at Cinnamon�s for breakfast today!

There�s usually a long wait on weekend mornings, but I guess we got lucky or something as our party of five was seated right away. I rarely make it over to the Kailua side of the island, but on the occasions I do, there are three things on my agenda: Cinnamon�s, beach, and Island Snow for shave ice (previous post). Breakfast options at Cinnamon�s are fairly abundant, running from fried rice and eggs to mahi mahi and hash browns and a reliable variety of pancakes.

But no matter how many choices or temptations are present, I head straight for the carrot cake pancakes, which area easily my favorite type of �flavored� pancakes on the island. These golden saucers come two to an order, the batter folded with just enough grated carrots and raisins. But the best part is that little saucer you see on top. Know what it holds? Whipped cream cheese butter! It�s lovely, I tell you! Smear a little of that creamy sweet bliss over a hot pancake, and if you�re lucky, you�ll pop a bite of plump raisin in that cut, and I swear to god, it�s like eating semi-healthy carrot cake for breakfast! Now if only they would add chopped walnuts...now that would make it perfect!

Darien�s pesto frittata wasn�t the most visually appealing, but I had a bite, and yes, it was awesome! Packed with a mix of artichoke hearts, spinach, onions, and olives, it made the finest breakfast paring with white rice

Kelly's pancakes were topped with the most enormous mound of stewed cinnamon apple slices. It was a mountain! The wobbles of whipped cream seemed a bit excessive and was unnecessary considering the sweet apple topping was quite decadent as is. Nonetheless, the flavors of cinnamon mingling with tender warm apples over griddled pancakes and perhaps a bit of butter, was just perfect for this Hawaii morning. I wasn't kidding when I said HUGE...even Kelly, the enormous eater with an appetite of a superhero had issues finishing it. (But then again, she also did have bacon and scrambled eggs with the pancakes :)

Shann and Trisha both got the french toast of the day, the most colorful order of all. Two slices of french toast, layered upon on another, and then a glorious tangle of strawberries, oranges, bananas and kiwis. It was a dessert/breakfast worth staring at, though I�m afraid the generous ladle of strawberry sauce over the toast was a bit of sugar kill. I once told a friend that Cinnamon�s was my favorite breakfast spot on the island. He responded, �that�s where all the grandmas go to eat!� Sigh. Some people are never convinced!
